Re: eBay: Allied intrest
The identity of Battle RH-R shown in the above post eludes me. Anyone please?

Re: eBay: Allied intrest
Hi Andy. There's an RH-R L5519 on here but the one in the photo seems to have been abandoned (not sure if the man is German ?).

Re: eBay: Allied intrest
That Fairey Battle 'RH-R' is K9352, destroyed in a bombing raid on Mourmelon-le-Grand airfield on 10 May 1940 as per the entry for it on my website.

Re: eBay: Allied intrest
Hello Ed,
The series of photographs of the two FFI ladies. Any idea as to who they were and why they received such a tremendous welcome ? https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/s/?...da21&safe=1&zw Thanks Alex |

Re: eBay: Allied intrest
Post 3428.
Photo 1. B-17G 42-32004 (388BG) "Pride of the Yanks" came down in the North Sea on 20 June 1944 on Mission 425 to Magdeburg. Their "H" had a high cross-bar which looked like "M" from a distance. Photo 2. F-5G 44-26235 conversion from P-38L at the Dallas / Love Field Modification Centre Texas."64" is factory production number. Photo 5. Col. J. D. Landers 78FG c/o before all his victory flags (Japanese and German) were marked up; extra decoration was added, white-black check wing tips, red spinner back plate and anti-glare border, red-black fin tip and serial moved to fin. Photos 3-4. Both photos were apparently taken in the States by S./Sgt. Paul Litvinoff from the Military Intelligence Service (there's a photo of him with an Eighth AF patch). B-17G 42-38180 was stripped for transition training; B-25 43-3416 was a "D" conversion to F-10 Photo but the tail gun position is an H / J ? The caption says used for photo flights, probably mapping in 1945; Litvinoff was a professional photographer and took other photos of B-17s in the States with the same insignia on the noses. They had 2- or 3-digit numbers. The mountain may be the Rockies and the gunner is sitting on a bomb. Nick |
