Re: eBay: Allied intrest

Post 3726 update photo 2 (Baltimore probably Mk.III with 4x 0.303s in turret). The 2 white bars on rear fuselage look like the Flight marking on 55 Sqn.; the middle section in Flight colours, red "A", yellow "B". But varied in location or size.
Examples AG793/N, FW291/X, AG781/B, FW287/A. Letters red, outlined white later.
Regards
Nick

Re: eBay: Allied intrest

Note for Andy.
Photo 3. Hurricane IIB, if she did go to Turkey, arrival date was 1 Sept. 43 when 274 Sqn. was at Derna, Libya; hence over-painted RAF insignia apart from tail flash which would be needed for ID on flight to Turkey. List of Hurricanes here. BE491 was Turkish serial 4215, all retired 1947........

(the chap on right looks like the one with the Baltimore).

Re: eBay: Allied intrest

POST 3736. Photo 1.
Not really my subject but this is the Viking II SE-FYR built by ASJA (Svenska AB) in 1934 as a high-wing utility monoplane, 200hp Gipsy 6 engine; at the time with "Svensk Filmindustri " ("Stockholms- Tidningen" on fuselage). Previously operated by a newspaper company, scrapped 1941. Presumably the ladies are actresses. The logo was a stylised "SF".

Re: eBay: Allied intrest

Well done Nick

ASJA Viking II SE-FYR (2) was actually co-owned by the newspaper Stockholms-Tidningen
Stockholms Dagblad and AB Svensk Filmindustri.
It was registered 14 Feb 1935 and the visit to Berlin may have had something to do with the
Olympics in 1936

Cheers
Stig

Re: eBay: Allied intrest

Hi Stig. I think more likely to be taken on the apron outside the Swedish Film Studio at Tempelhof where they were making films in the 30s; maybe one of our Swedish friends can ID the ladies ("Shauspielerin" = actress). They don't look like typical glamorous Swedish stars but the clothes don't help.

Nick
