Re: eBay: Allied intrest
It is not n°557 ; check page 106 of the book Le GC III/3 en 1939-1940. Condors et Pirates au combat. Collection Histoire des Unités n°13. Lela

Re: eBay: Allied intrest
Re post 2731.
https://www.ebay.de/itm/374798431570...Bk9SR4zN0JemYg I am puzzled about this photograph. FAA Aircraft 1939 to 1945 has photo on page 291 of an Avenger showing the starboard side coded "K-IB" ( so Port side would most likely be " IB-K" ). Caption suggests the aircraft was with 756 Sqdn FAA at Katukurunda ( HMS Ukussa ), Ceylon. However , other sources suggest the photo of "K-IB" shows an Avenger of 832 Sqdn FAA , on line there is a colour profile of "IB-K" (Port side), JZ512 which says the aircraft served with 832 Sqd FAA. But I found that the code "IB" was used by 738 Sqdn while in the USA, an example is "IB-A", JZ183. So is the photo of "IB-M" showing an aircraft of 738 Sqdn, 756 Sqdn or 832 Sqdn ??? Serial number could be an American number or in the "FN" or "JZ" range.Doubtful if the serial number of "IB-M" can be discovered ![]() Thanks Alex Last edited by Alex Smart; 9th July 2023 at 05:23. |

Re: eBay: Allied intrest
Alex
In the case of 756 Sq their assigned code was K1 meaning that K1 was always present followed by an individual letter (from A and up) 832 Sq was nowhere close to using a code like this. They used a single digit code 4 followed by an individual letter (A and up) 738 Sq on the other hand DID use the code 1B (digit 1 not letter I) followed by an individual letter (A and up) I have it listed as an Avenger I 1B-M crashed somewhere in the USA. George can probably give you chapter and verse about this one.... Cheers Stig |

Re: eBay: Allied intrest
Many thanks Stig, my thoughts confirmed by you. Still I wonder how the authors/researchers for those Naval books go/ it wrong ?
All the best, Alex |

When it comes to Royal Navy stuff I stick to Air Britain and their publications. Codes and units are from their Squadron and Units book. Extremely well researched! Cheers Stig Last edited by Stig Jarlevik; 10th July 2023 at 21:28. Reason: spelling |
