Re: Photo Fokker D.VII
Hello Nick,
Thanks for the response. Its quite remarkable that such a high percentage of Fokker D.VII photos seem to date from the immediate post war period.I guess that may also be the case with 91*/18 and 'Z' in post #19 of this thread too. Annoyingly I feel sure I've seen a photo of 91*/18 somewhere before but can't think where. Well if that's a duplicate at least the machine with the 'Pelikan' in post #18 appears new and predates the war's end. Regards, Clint |

Re: Photo Fokker D.VII
Hi Clint. You may have seen the same photo in the Thetford & Gray "German aircraft of the First World War". The diagonal tail stripes on "Z" are similar to Jasta 37.
I think 7788/18 may be at Colombey-les-Belles both the 85th and 25th were there for a few weeks in 1919 (hence the SE5a? ). The field was HQ for Supply Services and demobilized USAS units post-war. On p.9 of this site is 7744/18 with the 25th Aero possibly at the same time. This is a modelling site but has some good detail shots of DVIIs. 7788/18 is on p.10. http://www.wingnutwings.com/ww/vE472...structions.pdf Nick |

Re: Photo Fokker D.VII
Hi Nick,
I agree with you about Wingnut wings site, its an excellent reference for aircrat and not just the Fokker D.VII either. With regard to the location of the photo of D.VII F 7788/18, the Fokker anthology vol. 1 has the following text 'passed its acceptance test on November 29 1918 and passed to the USAS at Coblenz early the following year' I accept that that doesn't necessarily mean that the photo is taken at Coblenz, but given that it still bears German national markings, perhaps Germany is indicated as a location rather than France. Also, you're correct that Smith & Kay is probably where I previously saw the photo, though the ebay one is much clearer.Jasta 37 is a distinct possibility but Jastas 71 and 73 can't be ruled out. Regards, Clint |

Re: Photo Fokker D.VII
This is DVII (Alb) 638/18 "MOUSCHI" flown by Friedrich Poeschke Jasta 53, very similar to "Nickchen IV" flown by Blumenthal.
I think the name is a girlfriend's name. Nick |

Re: Photo Fokker D.VII
Hello Nick,
Many thanks for the identification. I ahree it does look very like Blumenthal's machine. As the serial is not visible I take it you've seen a photo of this machine elsewhere? Regards, Clint |
