Re: Photo Albatros D.III

Sorry Clint can't make that serial out ( but looks like 3 digits); neither of the other 2 seem to have been recorded.
Kempf's D.III had this distinctive wide white bar ; there is another photo of these 2 in the Osprey Albatros aces part 1, with Bassenge's. Another photo of this D.III running-up with Kempf in the cockpit shows the dark fuselage and wheel covers.
The painting is by Brian Knight GAvA.

Re: Photo Albatros D.III

Hello,

Currently on ebay are two photos of an Albatros D.III at:

https://www.ebay.de/itm/363593827706...YAAOSw6J9hdojo

https://www.ebay.de/itm/363593826222...MAAOSw~tdhdogj

Unfortunately the negative appears to have been reversed which does not help in identifying the machine shown (though annoyingly I think I've seen it before somewhere). The serial appears to end in 82 or should that be begins in 82? Can anyone please assist with the number shown?

Regards,

Clint

Re: Photo Albatros D.III

Clint I reversed the photo. it looks like D2285/16; markings may be Jasta 21.

Re: Photo Albatros D.III

Hi Nick,

Thanks for the photo work. I'm happy to go with your serial number and Jasta 21 looks very plausible.

Clint

Does anyone know the name of the pilot who flew this machine. Failing which, what does the emblem shown depict? Hopefully I could then use that for an image search.

Regards,

Clint

Re: Photo Albatros D.III

Currently on ebay is a photo of an Albatros D.III. I t looks like a Jasta 11 machine and may be 629/17 of Karl Allmenröder. Photo is captioned as orginal, but no idea whether this is the case. So has anyone seen this photo before and able to confirm the machine's identity?

Re: Photo Albatros D.III

Hi Clint. Could it be Lothar v. R. (yellow nose) ? Allmenroder's had a more visible fuselage cross under the thin dope. Not sure though.

On the subject of Albatrosses ("Albatrosen" ?) I thought you and Stig would like these on P.5 .
