Re: Search for German Fighter Pilot

Additional information for Peter as a reply to his previous message:

1) Gefr. Bodo Siegfried was severely injured with broke leg, arm, shoulder and head wounds. I had contact with Mr. Siegfried in 2000 and he only remembered he came down near Lichtenvoorde.

2) Fw. Otto Erhardt was born in Pforzheim so he wasn't Austrian. In 1998 I had contact with the relatives but they did not have any additional information on Fw. Erhardt.

3) The VLM of Stfw. Wilhelm Scheschonka says crash location is "Doetinchen bei Deelen". Of course your info is correct.

4) I can't find an easy candidate for the 23-9-1944 crashlanding either. Nothing from 23-9-1944 seems to match. I only have Fallschirmabsprung and not crashlandings as survivoers...

cheers,

John Manrho.

Re: Search for German Fighter Pilot

hello
I am in possesion of notes who were written on a missionary-calendar by someone living in the zieuwent area. It says:
januari 14, 1945: biggest airbattle ever, 8 a/c went down in the neigbourhood.
Stfw Wilhelm Scheschonka was buried in Doetinchem, now Ysselsteyn:CR-10-228.

Re: Search for German Fighter Pilot

Hi Peter,

This is a most interesting thread. Regarding the Luftwaffe aircraft you have recovered, have you documented any Motor Werknummern from these crashes? While I am interested in any Luftwaffe motor data you might have, I am particularly looking for WNrn. from the Fw 190 A-9s and F-9s you have found. I am attempting to get an idea how many, if any, A-9s and F-9s flew with BMW 801D instead of the specified BMW 801TS.

Re: Search for German Fighter Pilot

Hello Steve Sheflin
Thank you for your contribution of May, 11th 2008. You certainly point out an interesting item. Indeed we found a few times BMW801D engines at Fw 190A-9 sites f.i.:Fw 190A-9 Werk Nummer 205266 13/JG3, Feldwebel Karl W. Kleinemeier, Jan.14th 1945 with the following engine nrs. 3321 D 801.317-044 20 / 22 37 3259 II JGZ / 127 3 8 S 447 and 3350-4 801 0-731.1301. (JGZ= BMW Flugmotorenbau G.m.b.H. München 13, Lerchenauerstrasse 76, Werk München) We also dug up parts of Fw 190A-9 Werk Nummer 205241 Stab/JG3 Gefr. Bodo Siegfried Jan. 14th 1945 but of this one I’ve to look first for the data on the BMW-engine parts which I don’t have on hand. But it certainly is interesting that there were exceptions of which we learn from records that not all Fw 190A-9 were fitted with 801TS engines. The difference between practice and theory ? Any idea why these exceptions took place ? As soon as I’ve more info about the other A-9 reg. its engine nrs. I’ll let you know on this forum site.
regards,
Peter Monasso
