Re: IVBIA-45 VVS fighter pilots manual

Two never published before photoes, from the personal archive of Kommander of 8 VA, T. Khryukin (thanks to his grandson, Timofey, for sharing them):

Bf109, "Black 1+ ", somewhere in the frosen field aounf Stalingrad.

Bf110E-2, most probably a 4./ZG 1 machine "S9+RM", lost on 16 december 1942.

Re: IVBIA-45 VVS fighter pilots manual

Black 1 is most probably Bf 109G-2 WNr. 13711 which crash landed in Maikop airfield on 3 November, 1942 due to engine failure with Hptm. Siegfried Simsch (StaKa 5./JG 52)

IMHO Evgeny has a right to be proud.
But I have an equal right to critique his approach.
Quote:
Whatever the circumstances up to 1939 and the events of the cold war, the Soviets paid the right to be proud in blood, sweat and tears (to steal a quote).
But who are the Soviets? Estonians, Latvians, Lithuanians, Poles forced to serve in the Red Army? I may assure, they want an excuse, and the last thing they want is to be considered Soviet heroes. Or perhaps let's talk about Soviet PoWs taken in Poland in 1939, who not only were not very eager to fight for communism, but even joined Polish forces to fight against it! Be serious, you cannot separate events, which were directly linked.
Or perhaps turning the problem onto Germans, do you think that they paid in blood, sweat and tears to be proud of what they did in 1939-45? Should we separate bravery on the Eastern Front and Western Front? Or perhaps to note that SS heroes of Normandy were of different breed than the ones fighting in Auschwitz?

Evgeny wants to share some interesting (rare) data.
I am grateful for this, but one thing is sharing data, and completely another is to share views.
Quote:
This should not be spoiled by an unnecessary discussion about right and wrongs. There is such a thing as kicking a dead horse. Do we need a reminder every now and then that there are more sides to a story? Yes, I think so. But how we bring a message is just as important as the content.
If we bring the message that the Soviets alone fought bravely against Germany during WWII in the years 1941-1945, and if we do not note that they started the war together with Germany in 1939, they sabotaged Allied effort in the period 1939-1941 and supported Germany with raw materials, they were responsible for enslaving nations and crimes against humanity in the very period, they started more-less open combat against Allies (1943 - Poland, 1944 - Greece), and that they continued crimes and enslavement of European nations in the period 1943-1945, then we produce a big lie, did not we?
Please, there is a difference in describing, mourning and glorifying. The Soviet Union and communism is not necessarily a dead horse, but certainly a stinking one. There should be no room for glorification of any criminal regime, be it Soviet Union, Germany, Cambodia or whatever else.

Thanks again Evgeny for sharing your material with the community and good luck in the army!
Absolutely!

Re: IVBIA-45 VVS fighter pilots manual

Evgeny,
Thank You for the downloads.

also a quick note about the works of Maslov.
they are not as unknown here in the west as you might have thought.
I personally own a copy of his book on the I-16 (over here we just call it Armada #2)
earlier this year I was able to download the other books you had posted from a man in England. (and several others in electronic form)
a man in Greece sent me a DVD with the book on the I-15 (the hardcover book that I believe preceded the Ehksprint volume) just a few months ago.

the problem over here is the lack of Russian-speaking people who might be willing to translate these documents into English for enthusiasts like me.

Best Regards and Cheers !

Re: IVBIA-45 VVS fighter pilots manual

I am always pleased to be helpfull to everyone

I have many Pilot Flight Manuals for different VVS aircrafts, digital copyes from original books.

I think they are aviable to download in web, but I could also upload them for You somewhere.

Some of them:

Po-2 (U-2) M-11 (Technical Description Book) - very detailed, with drawings;

Il-2 AM-38 (Pilot manual)
LaGG-3 M105P and M-105PF (Pilot manual)
Yak-7B M-105PF (Pilot manual)

Also, I have Textbook for ground technics, "Ремонт и Эксплуатация Самолёта" / "Repair and Exploitation of aircraft" by D.Brimm and G. Bodgess, edition 1939 !!!, "OBORONGIZ", the main book they used for theyr work during 1939-45. It is 219 pages .djvu file, ~66 mb.

I could upload it, just ask

I know, where is Maikop (anyway easy to call it as large Stalingrad battle area) But it must be this aircraft (and the background confirm it also, since it is an aircraft graveyard of an airfield, not a lone crash landed aircraft in the plain)

Re: IVBIA-45 VVS fighter pilots manual

Hi Csaba,

this G-2 is most likely from the 2/JG52. The II/JG52 already used on this time "second group bar" and the seize of number characters was considerable smaller.

Regards

Robert

Robert,

That's correct, the 2nd Staffel operated Schwarze 1 from Pitomnik from late September till early November, but I was not able to 'synchronize' any of their losses with this one (they reported nothing similar loss in Pitomnik which would fit for this loss, I mean written off accident in airfield) Only possible 2nd Staffel loss known by me is a belly landing in Chalcuta area with 40% crash on 4 October. I don't know, where is that settlement, (enough close to Pitomnik to transfer the wreck there?)
However, Bernd Barbas' I./JG 52 book contains two photos of Fw. Schwientek's Schwarze 1 from Pitomnik and the painting around the cabine looks very similar to this picture.
