Re: Plagiarism does't pay

Hi

I have had several books published in the UK but have since found that a number of these have been translated into non-English languages and published in Eastern European countries without permission (or fee). Some have even appeared on digital websites, again without permission (or fee)

My publisher pleads ignorance but fails to investgate. I am the loser.

Re: Plagiarism does't pay

Although slightly off topic I'd like to add a relevant news article to this topic.
A court in Breslau has given the owner of polish publisher XXL, Marek Skierkowski, a suspended sentence of 3 months and a fine of 10000 Zloty (2250 Euro) for publishing Hitler's "Mein Kampf" without permission, whereby the copyright is held by the Freistaat Bayern.
There are further details to be found on the internet, I've only found items in German so far and don't want to spend the whole evening translating it all for you lot, so please have a look yourself.
Interesting that they published 20000 books back in 2005 and had to recall them, only 580 could be found.

Francis

Re: Plagiarism does't pay

It is a complete off-topic, because Bavarian claims should not be recognised by the court. It is all politics. Actually, 20000 pieces is quite a poor achievement for so well known author, and I would say that the book did not find the recognition it should, as a historical source. Doubtless it helped me a lot to understand German politics.

Wink Re: Plagiarism does't pay

Hi guys

Who was it who said - 'to use information from one author is plagiarism but to use information from several is called research?'

Re: Plagiarism does't pay

Another kind of plagiarism.
A site named "www.airmen.dk" links to the subpages of my site Airwar over Denmark at www.flensted.eu.com and most users will not notice this but believe that they are still on the other site.
I have asked the owner of the site to stop it, but he do not want to listen because years ago I agreed that he could link to my site. I have however never agreed to let him link to my subspages.

Re: Plagiarism does't pay

Well Soren is not the only one to have trouble with the owner of "airmen.dk". I was kind enough to supply a veteran B-17 crewmember a photo of the guy who shot him down. The veteran passed it on to airmen.dk. The owner then put it up on his website and only after that asking my permission to use it! I told him it would be ok if he downsized the picture, but he really got so offended that and refused to do anything about it:-(.

Re: Plagiarism does't pay

Hello
It is really a shame that such behaviour is still promoted by some companies.
I too had some troubles with my works (illustrations).
I feel that one of the most efficient ways to combat this is by letting everyone knows it.
Best regards to all

Re: Plagiarism does't pay

HELLO,
Just to show both our members what is going on down here in Brazil related to the topic ( use of Copyrighted material without quoting sources, mostly Bundesarchiv material ): click on the link: http://www.revistaasas.com.br/asas_p...f=intrusos.swf
A book almost on the same style as Intruders over Britain by Simon Parry ( NJG 2 ). I suggest members to click on the bottom of pages to check out how many Bundesarchiv and other UK photos were used without quoting....
Yours

Re: Plagiarism does't pay

Another example would be -

Kursk: The German View by Steven H. Newton

I came across Appendices from this book (Lw. OdBs), somebody typed on certain discussion forum and they are a copy of OdBs that I compiled several years ago for my webpage. No credits given.

Re: Plagiarism does't pay

The same Brazilian Editor above wrote a book about the Air Battle of Kursk translating and adding Bundesarchiv photographs from a lot of English and USA books....NO credits, of course...
Have a look at it...
