I'd like it!!!
According to the eyewitness the plane crashed between June and July 1944..Lapse of time is too wide, unlikely, i think Fabio RAF can get more news.
Ah,the crash site is Bondeno near Ferrara, but in june and July 44 a lot of planes were shooted down in that zone...

EDIT:eyewitness said June-July,but in that period no G6U4s were deployed in Italy.Tomorrow, when I back home, I'll check the Beale-D'Amico-Valentini's book "Air War Italy 1944-45" for accuracy.
Regards
Alessandro

Thumbs up Re: engine recovered, need info :)

Hi all

for witness, after 60 years, is difficult remember a precise date...unfortunately, the reports that we find in the books, in the sites, they almost always writes "near Ferrara" ... "near" it is also 50/60 km of distance.
Friends... we thank you as for your answer, when we will have news, we write here.

Best Regards from Romagna Air Finders

Fabio

I'll save you the trouble! According to our book, Stab and II./JG 77 had 19 G-6/U4 on strength on 31 August 1944.

The ANR was using the type by December (and probably earlier).

Re: engine recovered, need info :)

According to the files I own concerning the losses of JG 4, JG 53 and JG 77 indicating Ferrara and sorrounding areas as the point of fall of the aircraft, these are the data I found:

25.03.1944 - Ferrara - 3./JG 4 - W.Nr. 162522 - white 1 - Lt. Engelbert Beckers (KIA)
30.04.1944 - Ferrara (15km S.) - 2./JG 4 - W.Nr. 162995 - black 12 - Fw. Wilhelm Becker (WIA)
30.04.1944 - Ferrara - 2./JG 4 - W.Nr. 18567 - black 3 - U. Waldow Zeuner (WIA)
12.05.1944 - Pomposa (FE) - 2./JG 77 - W.Nr. 26057 - red 16 - Uffz. Karl Heinz Schmincke (KIA) - recovered
13.05.1944 - Pomposa(FE) - 1./JG 77 - W.Nr. 162381 - white 15 - Uffz. Hanz Forler (WIA) - recovered
23.05.1944 - NW Ferrara - 5./JG 77 - W.Nr. 163172 - black 15 - Uffz. Willi Schulze (KIA)
05.06.1944 - Ferrara - 5./JG 77 - W.Nr. 163167 - black 8 - Uffz. Rolf Berndt (WIA)
29.06.1944 - Ferrara - 1,/JG 77 - W.Nr. 163201 - white 9 - Lt. Richard Heller (KIA)
12.07.1944 - Ferrara - 6./JG 77 - W.Nr. 441320 - ? - Fw. Albert Ullrich (WIA)

Obviously, this cannot exclude other losses which were reported with incorrect fall areas or wrong names, but it is a start somehow.

Hope this helps.
