I agree with your opinion. Also the others here in this thread think that "M8" is very safe, and that like you also mean, perhaps it is an airplane from the former Eastern front. In 1944 the Bf-110 was taken out of service by the Me-210, but then it was used again because of the problems with the 210. I think this also explains the color scheme and the discrepancy in the version of the Bf-110. Most sources write a Bf-110 G2. According to Messerschmitt's spare parts list, our wreck parts are definitely an "F". So it could have been an old Bf-110, which was previously an "F" and was used in the East, which was later converted to a G. The Bf-110 is now a G2.

In one of my previous postings I raised the question in which squadron this Bf-110 might have served before. But that caused more questions than answers. Unfortunately there are apparently no more files about the airplanes themselves. So delivery to squadron, repairs, conversions, damages etc. and that all with serial number of the airplanes.

Regards,
Markus

Re: Colour scheme Bf-110 II./ZG76

Planes and crews for fw Staffeln of II./ZG 76 came from ZG1, and so called Panzerjaegerstaffel 110, which operated with Bf 110 fitted with BK37 cannon.
to cite my manuscipt (work in progress):
"Stab of II.Gruppe ZG 76 has been newly formed in August 1943 at Wertheim airbase under the command of Hptm. Max Oskar Gehring. Personnel of the 3. Staffel Nahaufklärungsgruppe 4, 3. Staffel Aufklärungsgruppe 11 (on 9.8.1943) and 3./NAGr.6 helped to form new 4th, 5th and 6th Staffel of II./ZG 76. However pilots were coming also from other units such as Panzerjägerstaffel 110 (ZG 1), I./ZG 1, ZG 101 etc."

Re: Colour scheme Bf-110 II./ZG76

The WNr. 6420 was manufactured by MIAG at Braunschweig during July 1943 as a Bf 110G-2. It did not see service at the Eastern front, all the numbers around served in ZG home defence units.

The last old Bf 110G-3 from the former reconnaissance Staffeln were given by the Group to other units during October 1943. Until May 1944 the group operated only the Bf 110G-2.

Re: Colour scheme Bf-110 II./ZG76

@ Peter Kassak:
Thanks for the explanation. I had taken the trouble once and made an overview, from which earlier squadrons later ZG76 developed. But I didn't know that parts of the teams also came from the "Panzerjägerstaffel" and I'm new. Very interesting.

@Merlin: You seem to have some good information. So far, I hadn't been able to find out much about the plane, despite the hard research. I even had doubts about the correctness of the serial number. It was often written by 6490 or 6430. These are not there according to the list attached from the book "Flugzeug Profil #58" the numbers stop at 6429. These were made by Luther.

Can you verify your factory number 6420? What else do you know about this particular aircraft? Do you have its history or that of the crew?
Do you also have the complete squadron number (M8+xx)?
THANK YOU
Markus

Re: Colour scheme Bf-110 II./ZG76

The production of the Bf 110G-2 at the Luther factory (until 1942 named MIAG) at Waggum ran up to WNr. 6432 and was continued with WNr. 120001 in July 1943.

The original personal loss files of II./ZG 76 from that time do not contain data for the aircraft (WNr. or unit code). These data were sometimes added later by hand with of a very thin pencil which is hard to decipher on most of my copies. For the loss of Claasen WNr. 64?0 is readable, the third character has a rounded upper edge.

WNr. 6400 was a total loss on 8.10.43 and WNr. 6430 was lost the same day by 6./ZG 76 with the crew Fw. Braig/Uffz. Span near Steyr. Therefore only WNr. 6420 is left for the Claasen aircraft.

Hi Merlin,

Thank you very much, it seems very plausible with the serial number 6420. So I can investigate further if I can find out more with this serial number.

Hi Harrie,

I'm afraid there's no possibility to upload pictures in higher resolution here. Please reduce the size of the image and save it in this thread. I would be happy if you could tell me more about it. Why e.g. you are sure that it is from a Bf-110 of the ZG76. You can also send me the picture via PM.

Regards Markus

Hi Harrie,

That's an impressive piece. I would like that too.
