I believe the seller is right when saying postwar Europe, late 1945 (or even early 1946) I looked through TdU issue 34 (Martinet production) and the follow ups in later issues. The letters 'ZDK' does not fit in anywhere. I doubt it is a former German civil registration, so the only conclusion I can think of is some kind of USAAF 'local unit code'. The B-29 is more interesting to me since it must be 44-27354. I had no idea it ever went to Europe in the first place. It served in the far east with the 393BS and 509CG as 'Big Stink' and later in July 1946 was the aircraft used in the Bikini atomic bomb mission renamed as 'Dave's Dream'.... Cheers Stig |

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
I really do think it's a Czechoslovak machine - not only are the camouflage and partial registration consistent with this, but the white-trimmed (blue?) cheat line along the nose is also quite common for civilian operated Aero C-3/C-103/D-44 aircraft. ČSA operated a number of C-103s after the war, so maybe this is how this machine ended up photographed in Orly (if that's indeed where this image was taken)?

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Thanks pvanroy & Stig
I have also come to the same conclusion as I found Aero C103 - OK-ZDI, so I presume a set block of Regs were allocated for the Type. I was wondering why such an aircraft was at Orly so your suggestion seems highly likely. Thanks |

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
I suppose a government VIP transport is another possibility - if I recall correctly, another C-103 coded OK-ZDJ was used in that function.
