Re: eBAy: Captured german planes

Re post #4663, I don't remember seeing that rack under the outer wing on other Ju 88's. Was it a standard conversion?

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes

It's hard to tell, but likely. It is unclear, however, in which way these markings had been allocated to the different schools.

Most often, TS+MB is allocated to Fliegertechnische Schule 3 in München (because a lot of TS+MB-marked planes were captured there).

These Fw 190s marked TS+MA are said to have been captured at Bayreuth-Bindlach. But there was no Fliegertechnische Schule stationed in Bayreuth. Also, at least one of the Fw 190s in the photos up there is clearly not marked TS+MA, but rather also TS+MB (or +MR, +MD, +MP?).

To complicate matters even further, photos from Fassberg at the war's end show at least one of the planes from Fliegertechnische Schule 2 marked "FTS", which stands for Fliegertechnische Schule I guess - and does not fit in with the TS+Mx markings practice. So yes, TS+Mx indicates some school, but there are many uncertainties about further details..

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes

It has been reported as belonging to Technische Shule 3 at Schleissheim (near to Munchen-Oberwiesenfeld). Possibly I would think that the W/Nr was placed close to the cockpit for clarification for ground crews working on the aircraft. I have not seen this anywhere else so clearly was locally based.
However, I have seen something like this used on RAF aircraft being shipped to Supply Depots in France (circa early/mid 1940) possibly for shipment back to UK for repairs. Most fuselages had the Type of aircraft, some with dates painted close to the cockpits areas.
