Most often, TS+MB is allocated to Fliegertechnische Schule 3 in München (because a lot of TS+MB-marked planes were captured there).

These Fw 190s marked TS+MA are said to have been captured at Bayreuth-Bindlach. But there was no Fliegertechnische Schule stationed in Bayreuth. Also, at least one of the Fw 190s in the photos up there is clearly not marked TS+MA, but rather also TS+MB (or +MR, +MD, +MP?).

To complicate matters even further, photos from Fassberg at the war's end show at least one of the planes from Fliegertechnische Schule 2 marked "FTS", which stands for Fliegertechnische Schule I guess - and does not fit in with the TS+Mx markings practice. So yes, TS+Mx indicates some school, but there are many uncertainties about further details..

Why do you think there was no Fliegertechnische Schule in Bayreuth-Bindlach?
There was Fliegertechnische Schule 6 (1940 – Apr 45)

I have only seen it before as attachment point for the outer external fuel tank of the "Eisenhammer configuration" on some Ju 88 S-3s of I./KG66 in March 1945. No idea if this configuration was already an existing (sleeping) conversion and included in the Ju 88 drawings (and just waiting to be activated) or that it was specifically designed at the last moment for Unternehmen Eisenhammer and/or I./KG66's Ju 88 S-3s...

Does anybody know if recce Ju 88s carried external tanks at this position?..

Regards,

Marcel

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes

With respect to the photos of the Fw 190 A-4s “TS+MA” and TS+MB” in posts 4664 and 4665, the location is at Bayreuth-Bindlach. There are several photos of both these machines from the late Jim Crow’s collection confirming the location.

Best,

David
