Re: eBay: Allied intrest

Hello Faenor,

Thanks for sharing the photo and links. I cannot read any part of the serial number unfortunately. Is there any way of enhancing that part of the photo ?
L4859 of 59 Squadron was lost on 15 May 1940. It has been written that it 'crashed' and was coded 'TR-W'. However I have seen no photos to prove this and I do not know the source for the code. One of the crew was killed and two became POWs.
There is an AIR 81 casualty file for this loss but it will be several months before I can obtain a copy. That might reveal more.
If 'TR-X' turns out to be L4859 that will be a very valuable clarification to 59 Squadron losses.

Regards,

Martin.

Hi MArtin,

check this link - there are another 2 photos of same plane:

http://www.modelari.org/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=551

I post the photo, and I see (not on 100%), that last digit is probably 59 ....this is only photos of TR machines, which looks fine and not after crash or belly - landing.

Maybe somebody have better photo and can confirm the serial number of this plane.

Re: eBay: Allied intrest

Faenor,

Thanks again for the link and photos. On the very last photo if I look at it closely and in a certain light I sometimes see what I think is '59'. This is really interesting. However unless someone turns up a photo with a sharper image of the serial we cannot be sure it is L4859. As stated in my last post I also need to see what the AIR 81 casualty file for this aircraft records.

Regards,

Martin.

Re: eBay: Allied intrest

Hi all,

nice photo of Fairey Battle Mk. I K7700 QTo from 142. Sq :
https://www.ebay.de/itm/Orig-Foto-We....c100005.m1851

abandoned 17.5.1940 at Berry-au-Bac, when the remnants of 142 Sqdn. withdrew to Faux- Villecerf aerodrome.

From same aerodome - Berry-au-BAc is this photo:
https://www.ebay.de/itm/Orig-Foto-We....c100005.m1851

Remains of Fairey Battle are visible on the right - on the left is wreck of Hawker hurricane - probably from 1. SQ.

I´m looking for more info and other photos.

Thanks

Faenor
