Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
A better photo appears in his book 'The Last Battle' where it looks like the unit code is black 2
He was lucky to survive that crash even if it cost him both his legs. B Rgds Stig |

Hello,
Re: 9W+BO. Take a look here and you will catch fleeting glimpses of this aircraft at Fritzlar, 1945, including a close-up of the scoreboard - in colour! https:www.youtube.com/watch?v=8DXDLrlkelc Col. |

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Hi Stig,
Schertl suffered a skull injury and/or a severe concussion in this 109G-6 crash, but no injuries to his legs. He eventually recovered but the injury rendered him unfit for altitude flying, so he was later transferred to SG 4 where he flew ground-support missions in a Fw 190. He was shot down on and captured while attacking a Czech railway station on 23 April 1945. It was during this incident that he lost both his legs. In "The Last Battle", he gives the impression that his leg injuries were caused by the flak hit that forced him to crash-land. Leon Venter |

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Hi Stig,
You're welcome. >It was a long time since I read the book.... Me too. Thanks for mentioning that the photo appears in the book -- you made me pull it off the shelf and reread the sections about these two incidents in 1944 and 1945. Best regards, Leon Venter |
