Re: eBAy: Captured german planes

Please excuse me if you described this photo previously.

https://www.ebay.de/itm/Reichsvertei...53.m1438.l2649

Please is it a G-6 from a training unit according to the 3 digits ?
"337" or "387" ...

What about its camouflage ?

Thank you

Philippe

Hi there Philippe, this fuselage camouflage pattern is a late war variant seen on some machines starting in January 1945. Here are two examples I know of:

1. Wertheim, January 1945:

2. Illesheim, May 1945:

Nothing clear about which producer did introduce it, or - as Anders Hjortsberg points - which repair depot. As for the tactical markings, it is definitely a training unit. Photos available do point towards JG 102, but beware - no certainty. The best comparison is this shot:

Marc

This camouflage pattern is a similar pattern to which Erla used.

Regarding Gerhard Stemmer this was likely an "yellow 387" because the JG 104 adapted in August 1044 an three digit tactical number system for each Staffel. In 3.Staffel were used the numbers 301-340 for older Bf 109G types and the G-12, followed by 30 numbers for Ar 96 and then 370 - 396 for G-6 and G-14.

Hi Marc, That Fw 190 is set up to carry bombs so it's probably an F-8 or F-9
Cheers, Jerry

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes

Hi Marc and Jerry,

Jerry, you may be correct regarding the Fw 190 in Post #596 being an F-8 or F-9. However, if you are suggesting that it is, “is set up to carry bombs,” due to the apparent lack of an Fw 190 A Morane mast, it may also be an Fw 190 A-8 mistel upper component. A nice shot from the front would easily clear-up this conundrum.

Respectfully,

Steve Sheflin
