Re: Photos Royal Aircraft Factory Aircraft
Very nice RE.7 photos.
I got a problem with the crash of RE.8 B7729. When checking the date 8 May 1918, I have no crashat all of B7729. The other listed aircraft (4546) was an BE.2 and last time it was shown in RFC records was in Feb 1917. A4546 was a RE.8 but I have no details about that one at all. Checking the name Joseph Levine Myer, nothing comes up in either Henshaw or Chorley's books. Total blank Any ideas? Cheers Stig |

Re: Photos Royal Aircraft Factory Aircraft
Hi Stig,
Interesting that rcawsey.co.uk/Acc1918a.htm has B7729 and A4546 with 53 Training Squadron at Harlaxton, yet the photos for the R.E.7 have Machine Gun School ,Royal Flying Corps on the back.Perhaps the photographer flew with both units? Regards, Clint |

Re: Photos Royal Aircraft Factory Aircraft
Thanks Clint for that pointer
While I know both my book sources didn't include training accidents, the seller throw me off with stating regular Squadron units. A very good site BTW and I have downloaded his lists, even if I find his way of mixing both military and civil accidents a bit annoying sometimes.... Cheers Stig |

Re: Photos Royal Aircraft Factory Aircraft
Hello,
Currently on ebay are photos of Royal Aircraft Factory H.R.E.2 No.17 in its landplane form at: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Royal-Aircr...gAAOSwxe9ftN5x and Royal Aircraft Factory B.E.2a No.267 at: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1914-Photo-Postcard-ARMY-AEROPLANE-B-E-TYPE-Royal-Flying-Corps/203182069131?hash=item2f4e98558b:g:w0EAAOSwwz1fmHz %20c The latter may presumably be seen in Paul Hare's new book on the B.E.2a which includes the history and photos of all B.E.2a aircraft: https://books.google.co.uk/books/abo...AJ&redir_esc=y Regards, Clint |

Re: Photos Royal Aircraft Factory Aircraft
Hello,
Currently on ebay are two photos of Royal Aircraft Factory B.E.2E A2936 of 13 Squadron at: https://www.ebay.com/itm/WW1-1918-RF...UAAOSw4Mdf2lyp https://www.ebay.com/itm/WW1-1918-RF...cAAOSwC2tf2luX The A of A2936 appears to have gone 'A'WOL or perhaps the contrast is too low to permit it to be easily seen on the photo. Re: Photos Royal Aircraft Factory Aircraft
I confess it warmed my heart to read the back side (including the date) on both photos.
However it did not warm me very much with regard to the seller who obviously is in great need of a visit to Specsavers, on the double, and who thinks this is an Avro 504.... Cheers Stig |

Re: Photos Royal Aircraft Factory Aircraft
True enough in both respects.
Having a date is great. As I'm, to put it mildly, a bit over prone to deducing aircraft type from serial numbers I guess I can't be too critical. If the seller looked up 2936, as I suspect at : http://airhistory.org.uk/rfc/aircraft.html Then indeed we're looking at an Avro 504A.At least he tried.Or, it could be that given the service history of 2936 at that site is incomplete, that we're looking at an 'Improved Type 504A, rather in the manner that there was a Short Type 184 and the Short Impoved Type 184.
