This a/c looks to me like it originally carried the 1939-style markings pattern, which was subsequently updated to the 1940-style, with a mottle added in the later summer of fall of 1940.

It should be perfectly possible to remove all the original paintcoat, preserving it for the posterity, and to analyse it. It is being done by art preservation institutes, just instead of fabric with Mona Lisa it would be the real skin.

Hello,

I agree with Andy that this is Black 6+I, as it is reported to be. It obviously was built in 1939, with the old-style camouflage, and may well have previously flown with I./JG77. Not much left of the 1940-style camouflage paint, which has apparently mostly weathered away.

A very productive discussion here, due in no small measure to the wonderful photos by Peter Arnold. We all thank you Peter for your willingness to share these.

Regards,

Hi People...first post here so hello all ! To see colour pictures of Bf109E wk nr 4034 on the move with her squadron sisters in 1939 have a look on YouTube ! Simply type in Baumbach Trautloft together in the request box and see what turns up... The fuselage address and telephone number marking can clearly be seen on the taxiing shots. I'm convinced 4034 is in there somewhere....

From the photos I've just spotted fragments of red paint on the starboard side of the fuselage which may be the remainder of the very first number (whatever that was) which would have been red outlined with white in 4034's JG77 service....according to the colour footage on Youtube.

many Me109's of JG77 would have had the same tactical numbers/markings as 4034 throughout the years (replacements, etc.)...so she is not necessarily in that video...

Re: Battle of Britain Bf109E found in India a few years ago?

Hi any updates on this ?

As for the Current Registration goes it is "G-CDTI"

Details are as in :-
http://www.caa.co.uk/application.asp...llregmark=CDTI

So has this aircraft been restored and is in flying condition ?
So what about the Unit History of the Aircraft...and the Numbers that we were debating about ?
Is there any pictures of any other Aircraft with same Squadron or Simillar Markings...?

Any updates will be great.,

Regards

Sujoy

Hi all,

The Crash Report States it as 6+ Black and White Edge, Red Spinner Cowling and Rudder Yellow.

I am trying to get more reports and description of this Aircraft while it was in public Display in India.

Regards

Sujoy

Re: Battle of Britain Bf109E found in India a few years ago?

This aircraft might have looked very similar to Bf-109E of 8./JG53 (Black 7+I) Piloted by Walter Fiel (WNr 5901) which crash-landed at Peckham, Kent on Oct ober 2nd 1940. Photos and details of this aircraft Here!

From previous research carried out on a JG53 aircraft that crashed on 30/9/40, JG53 had already started (on some aircraft) to repaint the Swastika back on the tails and Pik-as emblem on the cowling prior to the date the Indian 109 crashed.

The Bf 109 E-1/B Probably Looked Like this before the Crash as from the description in the Crash Report.

The Aicraft Camouflage Colour may be slightly different....
