Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Hello everyone,
Regarding the Ju 88 hulk in Wellenmuster camouflage (lower photo in Post #748), could the print possibly be flopped? I ask this because of the open section in its lower fuselage and the possibility that it was where the Luft-Torpedo control bump might have been removed. These were mounted on the port side of the cockpit. Respectfully, Steve Sheflin |

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Gents,
Post 748 – Nick, I agree that the aforementioned photo of this Me 262 was probably found at Brandenburg-Breist. The new photos are clear evidence that the aircraft was dragged to a new location away from the hangers. The Americans discovered the trying to tow the Me 262 by the nose wheel quickly snapped it off. What worked much better was to loop a cable over the fin and horizontal stabilizers. Pulling it from the back caused the cable to bite into the fin leading edge and hook onto the strongest part of the tail unit where the adjustment mechanism for the HS inclination was located. The wrecks at Lechfeld show lots of evidence for this methodology. However, here the cable must have slipped of the mechanism and rode up the fin to rip the top of the fin off, perhaps as it was descending a slope. Post 751 – Steve, take a look at the jeep on the left. The steering wheel is located on the left side to the vehicle, confirming the photo is correctly printed. As well, the pilot seat is in the right position too (left side). You must have had a late shift! Cheers, David

#748 and #755
Access to control cables and wiring was left side of Ju 88 cockpit side. Number on nose R.1074 (fuselage number) but last two of W.Nr. abowe, painted over. My info comes out as .... 142466 Ju 88 A-4 I/KG 76 (Luftflotte 2) 15% at Foggia 28.05.43, clearly abandoned at later stages Image rang a bell, but also on Flickr.com, so copy of copy ?? http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/foru...tach_id=860588 #756 lower portion Hanau is "Hannau/Langendiebach" re the two destroyed Ju 88 G-6 620678 and 621191 (Ref: US A-report ) Last edited by edNorth; 5th February 2018 at 03:36. Thanks for the info, Ed
I have asked the seller about the R number on the nose of #748 and he says he reads the number as R1874. Regards, Rudi. |
