Re: JG 51 victories (Part 2)
Kirill, Thank you for the up date as that information was not listed. That now puts it as a slight over claim by IV/JG 54. I didn't get to see which area the two Il-2 groups were in to see who ran into who here.

Re: JG 51 victories (Part 2)
13 Oct 1943 10:53 (M)
9 Pe-2 from the 128 GBAP led by Mayor Makrov from a height of 3000 m. bombed German positions at the village of Kurtasy (target # 8). According to the crews the bombs fell on the western and southern outskirts of the village.. Over the target they took fire from AAA and were attacked by 4 Fw 190. Losses 4 Pe-2. Pe-2 128 GBAP Gds. Ml. Lt. Aleksey Pavlovich Simenskoy (Struck by AAA and left the group) Pe-2 128 GBAP Kukushkin (Only have the last name) Pe-2 128 GBAP Baranov (Only have the last name and that he escaped being a POW in 1944) Pe-2 128 GBAP (flight commander) Gds. St. Lt. Ivan Isaevich Prokorenko (MIA. Soviet records states he crashed in the target area after being hit by AAA) 1./JG 51 Oblt. Joachim Brendel Pe-2 (84) 08:55 35 Ost/15512/ Dajewo Uffz. Wolfgang Ohl Pe-2 (3) 08:58 NW of Duchatino Okay, I couldn't find Dajewo and Duchatino on the map but Brendel's PlQu. is in the area of Kurtasy so his claim can be linked. Maybe some one can link Ohl if the location is in the same area. Some times AAA being the reason given does not always mean that is what happen. There was another raid made by 9 Pe-2 from the 35 GBAP led by Mayor Pankov bombing a grove 1 km west of Astashkovichi (target # 10) which took fire from AAA. Pe-2 (# 10/208) 35 GBAP Ml. Lt. Yuriy Valentinovich Dobrolyubov & crew (MIA after being hit by AAA) |

Re: JG 51 victories (Part 2)
Thanks Kirche. It looks like Ohl was no where near the target at Kurtasy with that location unless he chased them after they crossed the front line or he ran into another bomber group. Would they have been based in that direction?

Re: JG 51 victories (Part 2)
Hi Michael,
Possible 128 GBAP was based in Volkovo-Egorie (near Yelnya) - as well as later in December 1943? It is 130 km on ENE (from Kurtasy). Bajevo 10 km North-East of Kurtasy and Dukatino 27 km to the North-East. Possible the regiment was able to retreat to the northeast (30-40 degrees on Krasniy), and further to the East (90 degrees on the Yelnya). I don't know those fights, far away from us. I know this division in the summer of 1942. Best regards, Kirill |

Re: JG 51 victories (Part 2)
I found this one concerning the 27 Feb 1942 Soviet North West Front which is the Staraya Russa - Demyansk - Kholm section of the eastern front. U-2 from 253 IAP PVO was attacked by a "Me-115" in which the passenger (Senior Clerk) Ml. S-t. Vasiliy Vasil'evich Pestov was killed and buried at Staryy Dvor, Leningrad Obl.
This was not listed to III./JG 3 and JG 54. I looked at the only other unit there in JFV 9/I and it only has 1./JG 51 no name, one aircraft (no type) 15:10. This was obviously a liason transport plane and not one of the "R-5" that III./JG 3 was claiming on the 26 Feb 1942. |
