Re: eBay: Allied intrest

You're welcome Bertrand. For me, the mystery remains about French civil aircraft being stored at hangars with military aircraft. How many civil aircraft were impressed into service? Is there some reference to this in a French publication?

Best,
Ed

Re: eBay: Allied intrest

Hi Ed

I do not know the number of ex-French civil used as military aircraft but if we list the accidents did between 9/39 and 6/40 we have 75 a/c coded in F-axxx (Caudron C275 Luciole Caudron C510 Pélican Caudron C600 Aiglon Caudron Frégate Farman 190 Farman 403 P3 Hanriot 182 Hanriot 192 Léopard Moth Mauboussin 123 Morane 130 Morane 191 Morane-Saulnier 230 Phalène Potez 36 Potez 585 Potez 60 Salmson "Cri-Cri" Salmson D.2 "Phrygane".

Most were requisitioned in early 9/39

I am afraid there are no books but the synthesis of good articles published in Avions magazine and/or some archives held on at Vincennes bring an overall situation

Re: eBay: Allied intrest

Ed

In this case it is not a civil aircraft as such.
Both the French Air Force and Navy used large quantities of the Simoun, so this is not an impressed aircraft.

One can of course question the value of ordering such vast quantities of basically liasion aircraft when the writing was more or less on the wall.

Cheers
Stig

Re: eBay: Allied intrest

Hello Ed,

A number of years ago I posted on a thread on the axis history forum. You'll see a number of french aircraft listed there showing civil codes. Hopefully this might serve as a starting point for you, though obviously much information has emerged since I posted. Its at:

Re: eBay: Allied intrest

Hi Ed,

No problem. I wasn't suggesting anything else, merely providing a link to a list of aircraft operated by the french air force with previous civil codes. For what its worth I think you'll find that the vast majority of civil aircraft saw military service in france 1939/40. So most not stored.

Regards,

Clint
