2 August 42 15. (Spanish)./JG 51 loss

Prien’s JFV 9/II lists 15.(Spanish)/JG 51 Bf 109 F-2 #6712 as lost in an air battle at Rzhev but no pilot name. I am inquiring about information about the name, time and circumstances of this loss on the 2 August 1942.

Might I suggest that no name meant the pilot was uninjured?

Thanks for the replies but I was hoping for maybe some new information from Spain on this incident. It is the only mention of them in the area of Rzhev.

Re: 2 August 42 15. (Spanish)./JG 51 loss

Hi Nokose,
I have looked the spanish publications that I have and there is no mention to any combat in that date.
Anyway, the published information in Spain on the "Escuadrilla Azul" is not very exhaustive and all seems to come from the same source.
Sorry for not being able to help.

Miguel

Hello Miguel, Thank You for looking. There is a book coming out in English on 7 Oct 23 titled “The Blue Squadron’: The Spanish in the Luftwaffe 1941 - 1944” by Juan Arraez Cerda and Eduardo Manuel Gil Martinez that I hope will help in my quest. Have you heard anything about them?

Re: 2 August 42 15. (Spanish)./JG 51 loss

Hi Nokose,
Juan Arraez is a known spanish historian on aviation.
I do not know the book's spanish version. My search was made in the book "La Escuadrilla Azul" by Jorge Fernández-Coppel, published in 2017, and the article of Salas Larrázabal in the Nº 2 of the magazine "Aeroplano" in the eighties. The book is more comprehensive and display a lot of photos and data, but there are no discrepancies between them.
In the book are displayed the Werkenummer of all the planes (109E) used by the First Squadron but nothing for the others.

Good luck and best regards.
Miguel

Thank You Miguel,
Maybe, Amazon will make the upcoming into Kindle. At $45.00 for 156 pages is kind of high. Another book out there is “Spanish Air Force in World War II: Germany’s Hidden Ally by Eduardo Martinez with 184 pages copyright 2019.
