Re: New books by Brian Cull
Hi Brian: Received my copy of Fighters Over The Aegean. Good Stuff!
On the cover, the upper photo of pilots walking away from a Spitfire, the aircraft appears to be a late production Mk XVI with a teardrop canopy. I was not aware they served in the Med in those times.................... |

Re: New books by Brian Cull
Clearly this man his not seen Alec Guinness in "The Malta Story", IIRC there were teardrop Spits in that film, so it must be true!

Re: New books by Brian Cull
Well, Nick, since they were also in "Sink The Bismark", I guess you are right. Wow, Mk XVIs operational in 1941. Who would have guessed?

Hi John and Nick
Well spotted! Unfortunately I had a minor altercation with the publisher over this picture. I made similar comments, but ..........! Cheers - but I hope you enjoy the content! Brian |

Re: New books by Brian Cull
Brian, content is great and I appreciate what you must have gone through to get relevant photos.
Unfortunately, publishers are both ignorant and lazy. Likely some 20+ "art director" said, "Hey we need a photo of pilots walking away from Spitfires", not searching hard enough for more relevant photos of Mk Vs, etc. Typical. These "art directors" are the descendants of those who used P-36s in the 1942 Pearl Harbor movie as "Zeros", Vals, and other types. They assume the average public is really ignorant, and, unfortunately, they are probably right! |

Re: New books by Brian Cull
John,
I would not say that as publishers we are 'lazy and unfair'. We can only go with what authors supply us with in terms of material and images. We stress that we want the very best but can only do so much and look towards authors to assist us as much as possible during this process. Help us help you! Jay |

Re: New books by Brian Cull
Got the book in about a week ago and so far have had time to read only a dozen pages or so, but I'd say again that mr. Cull delivers excellent stuff!

Aw Thanks. I just finished the book last night. First rate. The chronological works are as riveting as memoirs or straight narrative histories. It is all in the writer as usual. |
