Re: Looking for a list of planes at Straubing Airfield
Thanks Don,
I am looking for a list that does not include fighters. I have a wood section of tail that 100% does not come from a fighter. It has red paint underneath the camo, which indicates the paint job was from an NSFK bird or similar earlier on (red tail, white circle with swastika, for example). Vet indicated that it came from a glider or trainer at Straubing... Trying to narrow it down... Thoughts? Mike |

Re: Looking for a list of planes at Straubing Airfield
What kind of red is it? Transparent or covering?
I know several red primers for wooden parts, having their origin in marine varnishes. Mtt for instance initially had problems with other varnishes because the wooden tails decomposed after several months of weathering. The adhesives had to be changed and a better protective varnish was introduced. Maybe you´re looking at such a varnish. Regards RolandF |

Hi Roland,
no no...100% it is RLM23 paint, not the red-oxide primer. Snautzer - how long ago? I'll try to do an ebay search... |

Re: Looking for a list of planes at Straubing Airfield
I tried that already and searched my files. But i think it was in the period of late november early december. It was a bit out of focus with only the glider on the picture with i believe a discription straubing. Just a normal vet picture. As i usualy do i searched then on the sellers other items to see if it is a collection. There were some others with severly damadges german plane wrecks. I am very much not sure but i think the seller could be 505hardy. This seller has often small but intresting series made by vets

Re: Looking for a list of planes at Straubing Airfield
Hi Mike
The a/c in the photo of Straubing at the end of the war showing a wreck with the Stkz GK+CA is a Fw 44 - confirmed by the open inspection hatch just left of the Balkankreuz. This type was built before the war and used also as a glider-towing a/c. It would have had under it's camouflage on the tail the normal style of national markings of a red/white circle & swastika plus the civil registration on the fuselage/wings. Just beore the start of the war a 4 letter system of radio-codes were used called Stammkennzeichen and applied to the aircraft. Does this information meet the criteria you have sdo hopes this helps Tom |
