Old Topic-When did Maj Georg Peter Eder crash in a Me262
So when was Maj Eder finally shot down and removed from active service? According to most reports(LW Officer List and others) he was shot down on Jan 22, 1945 while landing at Parchim. He broke both legs and was out of comission for the rest of the war.
Yet there are other reports of him crash landing WkN 501199 at Briest on Feb 17,1945? For example, Obermaier has him crashing on Feb 17,1945. Can anyone clear this up? Last edited by kaki3152; 4th June 2014 at 15:59. |

Re: Old Topic-When did Maj Georg Peter Eder crash in a Me262
The JG7 history by Manfred Boehme has in the text that Eder took off from Parchim on the 17th - Rademacher shot down a P-51 in the Hanover area on Feb 16th. The next day aircraft from Parchim were in action Georg Peter Eder, then Kapitan of 9.Staffel recalled : Eder then states he took-off with Ofw. Zander and Ofw Buchner to intercept bombers over northern Germany coming on the formation south of Bremen. He was hit by defensive fire and had to bale out hitting either the fuselage or tail surfaces, and breaking his left leg and sustaining head injuries.
Just to confuse things in the list of pilots in Appendix A of the book it gives that Eder was wounded on the 16th the same date given for his crash in the Me 262 combat Diary. A footnote in the Hermann Buchner book " Stormbird" page 130 gives the date as 22nd.January with Eder breaking both legs. Looking at the Mighty Eighth War Diary if the bombers were over northern Germany this would seem to make the 16th as the more likely date. Sorry not to give a definite answer but that is what I could find on Eder's last mission, Regards Brian Bines |

Re: Old Topic-When did Maj Georg Peter Eder crash in a Me262
Well,let's see.
Me 262 Volume 3 (Smith/Creek) has Feb 17,1945 with a detailed description by Eder. Obermaier has Feb 17,1945 JG-7 (Boehme) has Feb 17,1945 with same description as Me 262 Vol 3 Stormbird by Buechner has January 22,1945 LW officer Database by Stankey has January 22,1945 in "Fighter Tactics" by Sims has "that day in January 1945 when he was shot down in a jet east of Munich. He was taken to a hospital on the Tegensee and there remained until taken prisoner. One problem with Feb 17,1945. The plane supposedly flown By Maj Eder was 501199, which was listed as 65% destroyed in an engine accident. If he bailed out the A/C should be 99% destroyed. |
