McCallister or McAllister?

HI all.

I am bit confused by various sources showing the name of 20.FG pilot once as McAllister and other ones as McCallister. He scorred victory over German plane on March 2, 1945.
Can anyone definitelly write what is his true name? Thanks

I wouldn't be too sure about the spelling as it could well be a typo somewhere. Let me just say that Kent Miller spells it McAllister in his book and David Knight also gave the name as McAllister. David is the 20th FG historian and was in direct contact with McAllister before he was killed in a plane crash.

So two sources I used both shows their truth And I am again in the middle.
I got the picture from a 20.FG book from some historian (David? I do not remeber). And I think that there it is listed as McCallister. Will have to check it
Do you know the date of McAllisters death? Social security iindex may solve our problem

SS index gave just one result for each:

DAVID F MCCALLISTER *19 Mar 1914, + 21 May 1991

DAVID F MCALLISTER * 25 Oct 1937, + 09 Feb 1983

I guess that McCallister is right The second one was too young to fly a P-51
Problem solved or any other ideas?....

Yes, McCallister it must be. I only just thought to check my copy of Kingscliffe Revisited and it's McCallister in there. Not sure about the date of death though as a quick "Google" shows David F McCallister of 142nd FS ANG being killed in an exploding T33 on 4 June 1961. Either way, I will go for McC on the web site until proven otherwise!

This is a good place to check on American servicemen, going back at least to the Civil War. The main restriction is that the gravesite has to be in a National Cemetery; if buried elsewhere he/she will not be listed. A while back there was also an indication that one or two of the National Cemeteries had not been entered into their database.

From the home page given above, click on "Nationwide Gravesite Locator" on the left, and fill in the blanks. I always leave off the middle name/initial, since that has never found anyone who is actually in the database.
