U.S. 15th Air Force.

I am looking for a book that covers the operations of the U.S 15th Air Force, particularly during its time in Italy.
Can anyone suggest suitable publications which could help me in my current research. Many thanks in advance.

Re: U.S. 15th Air Force.

David,
About the only thing I am aware of is the book by Ken Rust in his series on all the US Air Forces in WW2. There are some unit histories, and at least one book from Turner (I think). A badly neglected area.

Frank.

Re: U.S. 15th Air Force.

Frank,

I'd agree with you that the 15th AF is a neglected subject.

Still, there are some very good Group histories, such as "Adorimini:the 82nd FG" or the 376th BG Group history.
There has been a very good history of the 332nd Fg published by Osprey just recently and the 52nd FG Group history that also just came out.. I think a lot of the 15th AF B-24/B-17 groups have some form of group history, but I can't afford to buy them all.

Still, through these and other readings, you can get a pretty good picture of the 15th AF

Re: U.S. 15th Air Force.

Here's a recent book about the 15th AF from Schiffer Publishing, the first of a planned series on the B-24s used by the 15th AF:

Re: U.S. 15th Air Force Osprey

As mentioned above, Osprey has a couple of volumes covering the 15th AF:
B-24 UNnts of the 15th AF - Bob Dorr
B-17 Units of the MTO - Bill Hess

The authors are produce consistently high quality work.

I agree that more 15th AF coverage is needed to round out the "Strategic Air Forces in Europe" picture.
