They're listed as members of 78 OTU , died 3 November 1944 http://www.rafcommands.com/forum/sho...rmen-3-11-1944 but that is all the details I have. There was a Baltimore lost in the area and the pilot killed and body recovered GODDARD, Harry - F/L (Pilot) - 47525 - RAF Baltimore V, FW561 of No 1330 CU,- Tel El Kebir War Memorial cemetery, Egypt. but think the OTU only had Wellingtons.

You could get a photographer/researcher to copy the ORB pages for you from both the OTU and the CU, save all the guessing.

Cost a few pound only.

Hello,
The reason I asked was that for Rees, Henk's list has -
Sgt. Edmund T. Rees - 1653111 - SS. Aquila.

At this time I have no idea what if anything happened to the SS. Aquila.

But I wonder if all four airmen were aboard ?
Burden - 1819002 - 78 OTU.
Carley - 2209030 - 78 OTU.
Cotton - 1819049 - 78 OTU.

We are talking about -1653111 Sgt Edmund Toulmin REES RAFVR here, not 1299493 AC2 Elwyn Thomas REES RAFVR, who was lost aboard the SS "AGUILA" (not "AQUILA"),(along with 11 other RAF casualties and 21 WRNS's). The "AGUILA" was torpedoed and sunk by U-201 on 19 August, 1941. https://uboat.net/allies/merchants/crews/ship1063.html

4 killed were in a 78 OTU Wellington (spuriously recorded as GA298) which crashed 30 miles WSE of Haifa 3 Nov 44. Flt Sgt Wheeler and Sgt Bowering were both injured

There was a Wellington JA298, don't know if it were in a black out block though

Hello Col,
Good that you noticed the spelling error and name.
Perhaps you should contact Henk's and ask him to correct his list

Hello Dennis,
Re: JA298 yes was with 78 OTU and SOC 9.11.46 according to AB JA100 -JZ999.

All the best
Alex
