Woodbine red leader - a story of a Mustang Ace
http://home.att.net/%7Egeorgeloving/...ome.html-.html
WWII memoirs of a fighter ace. Exciting tales of Spitfire patrols over Cassino and Anzio, and P-51 Mustang combat missions escorting massive bombing raids over southern and Eastern Europe. Intriguing stories of Operation Shingle, Operation Frantic, Operation Dragoon & Operation Rescue. I may only warmly recomend this title...especially for the 15.AF enthusiasts and Air war europe summer 1944 historians.... simply cannot be missing in your personal libraries...

I have the book too! And I also recommend it!
It's a good read and a nice first person memoir of flying Mustangs with the 15th AF; all in all, a good book to have about a theater that was much less publicized;

Re: Woodbine red leader - a story of a Mustang Ace
One of the nice things about this book is the mention of Otto Schultz,a RK with II/JG-51 who frequently fought the 15th AF. He now has (if still alive) a condo in Florida!

Re: Woodbine red leader - a story of a Mustang Ace
Denes:
I am leafing thru my copy right now; it appears during the time in question (from 8/12/44 to 8/16/44) the author was flying in support of "Operation Dragoon", the allied landings in Southern France;prior to Dragoon he flew to Ploesti on 8/10/44 and he had a mission to Ploesti on August 19 that was only opposed by Flak; those were his last missions to Ploesti and his very last combat sorte was flown on 8/21/44 to Nis', in Yugoslavia; Hope this helps a little; NickM |

Re: Woodbine red leader - a story of a Mustang Ace
HI NIck and Denes.
So Nick U was faster in reply But very accurate. As he mentions in book, 31.FG flew three missions to Pleasti, thisrd mentioned is 8/19/1944. BUt nothing about those previous... Anyway, nice book
