Luftwaffe in Norway: N9+PA --> what aircraft?

Dear all,

I am looking for more information about the aircraft that had the code

N9+PA

N9 stood for Flugbereitschaft Norwegen (Air Service Norway). However, I couldn't find out more. It must have been a seaplane.

Some of you may have seen the reason for my question: an original emergency trasmitter device (Notsendegeraet NS2) shown at swapey (link here) has this code painted on its body.

Thanks & regards

Hi Roger,

this could be a Ju52 as there are records for several N9+xA aircraft, but none (so far) for the N9+PA code.

Cheers

Hi GrahamB,

Thanks for the information! Interesting. As far as I know P was the Staffel letter and A the individual aircraft letter. Is there also a Ju 52 with N9+Px?

Regards
Roger

Also in addition to the Ju52's, the following are listed on page 43 of "Luftwaffe Codes, Markings and Units 1939-45" by Barry Rosch [Schiffer, 1995]

Flugber.Norwegen or Verbindungsstafel Norwegen

N9+CA - Si204
N9+DA - He111H
N9+KA - He111H
N9+LA - He111H
N9+BA - He111H
N9+EA - Fi156C-3

Cheers

It's the other way around Roger. The third letter was the individual aircraft letter whilst the last determined the Gruppe/Staffel.

Hi Peter,

Thanks for the additional information about other N9+xA aircraft and the Staffel letter position!

So, it could likely have been a He 111 or Ju 52. Interesting. I hope that some information about N9+PA will appear as it makes the emergency radio transmitter NS2 even more interesting.

I will post these comments on the item page of swapey. Feel free to add any comments to it if you like.

All the best,
Roger

Hi Graham,

Thanks for the information about the Ju52 with N9+xA codes! Do you know if there are any photos of these Ju 52?

Best regards
Roger

Hi, Roger...

Ju52 coded N9+AA was photographed at Bromma, Sweden, in 1941 after apparently landing there in error. The photo also appears in Barry Rosch's Luftwaffe Codes, Markings & Units 1939-45 (Schiffer) on page 43, which Peter Evans previously mentioned, showing part of the port fuselage with most of the code being visible.

Regards...

Hi obdl3945,

Thanks for the information! It seems that I have to get a copy of Barry Rosch's book. Sounds as a very interesting book.

Best regards
Roger
