You mean 4042 right? Last digit is pretty clear after all....

Re: Photo Albatros C.III

Hi Stig,

Possibly clear to you. I'm still torn, but definitely not certain. I will go with what you say as you seem pretty certain. I've also added a serial number question for you on the photo album thread if you wouldn't mind looking.

Regards,

Clint

Re: Photo Albatros C.III

Clint

If you are certain this is a C.III there is just one that fits, C.201/17
Since I am lousy ID German two-seaters, I pass....

Re: Photo Albatros C.III

Hi Stig,

Very much my point. If we look at the Albatros C.III (Bay) batch C.200/17 to C.239/17 all went to Turkey. I've never seen one of this batch in German markings, though they did of course have German Bestellnummern. Also for what it is worth the fuselage of any of this batch I have seen has the typical wooden finish associated with these machines

Crossing over to 1915 we have the Albatros C.I batch C.193/15 to C.244/15. I have not seen photos of all these machines, but any one I have seen, and that is quite a few, has the side radiator. And I 've seen quite a few

Now,these observations may easily be refuted, if photographic evidence emerges undermining the points above in the first two sentences and I'm happy to be convinced otherwise.

What then of a putative C.201/16.To the best of my knowledge, which is very finite,no C.201/16 has been identified so far and looking at the preceding block of Albatros Bestellnummern we have different figues for when the batch of C.III beginning C.100/16 terminated in the published sources.Grosz in the WDF had this batch terminating at C.199/16,whereas Zankl in the Aeronauts Albatros Aircraft of WWI has the batch terminating at C.193/16. In ant event there are no known serials as you are aware to the Otto C.II C.203/16. So is the aircraft in the photo definitively C.201/16.? I will not go so far unless the year part of the Bestellnummer can be clearly read. And yet...

Well anyway. Thanks very much for the question which has allowed clarification (??) of my thoughts at hopefully not too excessive length.

Regards,

Clint

Re: Photo Albatros C.III

As I said Clint, I am more or less useless with German two-seaters.

Perhaps the correct type should be identified first?

Cheers
Stig
