Eduard Meyer I./ZG26

Hello,

I am looking for some pictures and his list with kills/claims of pilot and Knights cross holder Eduard Meyer from I./ZG26 "Horst Wessel" . He was killed in action during a collision with another Bf110.

Any information would be highly recommened.

From www.ww2.dk Luftwaffe Officer Career Summaries:

MEYER, Eduard. (DOB: 08.12.19 in Detmold). (R).
1940 in I./ZG 26. 09.09.41 Lt. in an unspecified ZG, awarded the Ehrenpokal. 20.12.41 Lt., awarded Ritterkreuz, I./ZG 26.
31.03.42 KIA – Bf 110 E-2 (3U+PL) collided with another German aircraft and plunged to his death near Velizh/Belorussia.
Credited with 22 air victories and the destruction of at least 48 enemy planes on the ground and 2 tanks.

Meyers Bordfunker, Uffz Karl, was also killed in the crash.

Meyer was also credited with destroying 48 planes on the ground, 2 tanks, 12 locomotives and five Railway cars.

(mfm #5)-Vol.8; Balss, Deutsche Nachtjagd, II, p.62; Ring, ZG 26 loss list; Obermaier, p.168, Mankau/Petrick, Messerschmitt Bf 110, Me 210 & Me 410, p.325, Tschernij-Rutschei bei Welish, 100%, F, Bf Uffz. Karl Hohannes, , MIAG at Braunschweig in Nov-41

And the other machine -

Bf 110E-1, 3794, n.n., , II., 6., ZG 26, , 3U+FP, SB+FQ, , 31-Mar-42, Midair collision with Bf 110E-2 WNr. 4515., This is Tratt's machine on 27-Mar per Ring. 2 different incidents?, VIII.Fl.Korps/Eins.Osten, Gen.Qu.6.Abt. (mfm #5)-Vol.8, Mankau/Petrick, Messerschmitt Bf 110, Me 210 & Me 410, p.325; LEMB, Tschernij-Rutschei bei Welish, 30%, F, , , MIAG at Braunschweig in Mar-41

And the Tratt incident as reported -

Bf 110E-2, 3794, TRATT, Oblt. Eduard, 38, II., 6., ZG 26, , 3U+FP, SB+FQ, , 27-Mar-42, Stkp. Crew WIA due to Flak., F RK. Aircraft involved in midair collision, no names on 31-Mar, with Bf 110E-2 WNr. 4515 per loss., VIII.Fl.Korps/Eins.Osten, Gen.Qu.6.Abt. (mfm #5)-Vol.8; Ring, ZG 26 loss list, Mankau/Petrick, Messerschmitt Bf 110, Me 210 & Me 410, p.325; LEMB, 15km nördlich Rshew, b, F, Bf Uffz. Friedrich Gillert, , MIAG at Braunschweig in Mar-41

Does any one has a picture of this plane, Meyer flew with?
i can't find anything on the web

Hi Martin

By memory I believe that not a single claim for Meyer is recorded on the mikrofilms. This is because only one Gruppe of ZG26's earlier typed-out mikrofilms survived, and he was already dead before the daily mikrofilms began.

No knowing what number of confirmed claims he mad, behaps even his Ritterkreuz was for ground attacks rather than air-victories.....just don't know.
