Re: women pilots in the Luftwaffe

Hi John,

Mark Felton tends not to let the truth get in the way of a good story. Uhse's Flugbuch contradicts almost all of what he says about her flight out of Berlin in April 1945.

I wrote him an email and posted on his Youtube page regarding the inaccuracies of his Courland evacuation presentation, but unsurprisingly, never heard back from him.

Cheers,
Andrew A.

..that makes two of us..and the guy has 1.4 million subscribers, or did I read that wrong?

He mentions Uhse’s husband in his latest vid; Hans-Jurgen died at the controls of his JG 302 Bf 109 on the night of 29-30 May, crashing on take off ..

Think he did something on SKG 10 in April 1943-so full of inaccuracies, one could have flown a Fw 190 through it yet it was received as "unique/never heard of before". Really????

Re: women pilots in the Luftwaffe

Women were second-class citizens at that time (especially in the Third Reich, where they were just supposed to give birth to future soldiers (cannon fodder)), so I'm not surprised that many people wrote they hadn't heard of it before.

Your comment is highly biased.

A very late reply if I may. Too many people, especially under age 30, have not heard of a lot before. As a professional researcher where I work, I relied on printed directories and other sources with actual names and contact information, and still do. Now, anyone, posting with a real name or not, can put something up on youtube and be considered accurate.

I see the trend of various companies gently pushing people online as opposed to looking at books and directories. First, the internet does not contain everything. Five minutes on Wikipedia might be a start but it confers no actual expertise. Believe it or not, a company produced a series of Luftwaffe related books that consisted entirely of material lifted from Wikipedia.

Best,
Ed

Society was biased against women in general. Have you never heard of the German slogan: 'Kinder, Küche, Kirche' (children, kitchen, church)? That was the role assigned to women at that time.
