205 Group Combat reports 1941-43

Hi,

Are there any surviving Combat reports from the 205 (Bomber) Group written during the years 1941 to early 1943? I have found combat reports from mid 1943 to the end of 1944 in:
  • AIR 23/6815 Combat reports 1944
  • AIR 23/6818 Enemy night fighter: encounters 1943
  • AIR 23/6819 Enemy night fighter: encounters and claims 1943-1944
There are no combat reports in the ORBs or Appendices of 159 and 160 Squadrons during 1942. The same with 242 Wing ORB (159 and 160 Sqns belonged to this wing 1942). I have no experience of other squadrons.

Thanks in advance,
Peter

The SAAF part and I presume RAF 178 sqdn's reports should be under Air 54 as it was a SAAF group.

I don't have the reference to hand but there are also MASAF Daily Ops Reports for 1945, so there may be something similar for earlier years.

Re: 205 Group Combat reports 1941-43

Thanks Stefaan and Nick,

Stefaan: I had a quick look in AIR 54 and found the ORBs of 31 and 34 Sqns in but nothing on 178 Sqn so far.

Nick: MASAF was created late in the war and I am not sure what to look for in the period before MASAF. I guess the 205 Group Appendices may have some information.

Hi
I think you will have to look for 178 RAF in the RAF War Diaries. I have never seen them in our archives.
