Rudolf Sinner

Hi guys

I am wondering if anyone would have any loss list information for the following two times that Oberleutnant Rudolf Sinner, Staffelkapitän of 6./JG 27, was shot down:

10 June 1942 by Charles Overton (5.5 destroyed, 1 probable and 0.5 damaged victories) of 145 Sqn, RAF
24 March 1943 when he was wounded, presumably in aerial combat?

I am not even sure that this information exists so any help would be very nice indeed. Many thanks.

Bf 109G-6/trop WNr.16 328 24.03.43 6./JG27 Oblt. Rudolf Sinner (Stkp), Überschlag bei Landung, Fl.Pl. Chinisin - 35%

Sorry, but my database is in german. On the 24. March 1943 Sinner overturned while landing.

Many thanks for your information. I am very glad to know of the circumstances in which he was wounded on 24 March 1943 as I had no additional information aside of that he was wounded on that date. I hope that all is well with you and thanks for responding.

Where hv you found that Sinner was the pilot who made the forced-landing ??
Was it at that time El Adem in "ennemy" hands ?? rescue himself or per Wüstennotstaffel ??

My source is the GQM loss list, RL2 III / 775.
I'm not familiar with the rescue action on the first loss. Perhaps someone could check Dr. Prien's JG27 series for this detail (at this time I can't reach my volumes)

I do not know if you would be interested or not, but there are yet other occasions when Rudolf Sinner was shot down and wounded. One occurred during the Eighth AF's first operation against Berlin, Germany, on 6 Mar. 1944 when Hptm. u. Gr.Kdr. Rudolf Sinner, then leading III./JG 54, was seriously wounded by return fire while engaging B-17s near Bassum at approximately 1215 hr. The aircraft involved was
Bf 109G-6 WNr. 410 557 bl. 2 + .


You have your pick of accounts. According to Ethell/Price, Target Berlin, p. 59, Hptm. Sinner FSA wounded. The III./JG 54 NVLM indicates that Hptm. Sinner forced landed his machine with 30 per. dam.


Even the above episode, serious as it was, did not end Sinner's misadventures. On 4 Apr. 1945 he was again shot down, this time in a Me 262 of III./JG 7. See Foreman, Me 262 Combat Diary, p. 218, and related Me 262 literature.

Many thanks for your contributions. I was aware that Sinner was shot down on 6 March 1944 but until now was only aware that he had baled out wounded as Ethell/Price mention. The JG 54 loss list by Rösipal only states that he was wounded in aerial combat over Bassum and his Bf 109 G-6 "2" (W.Nr. 410 557) suffered 100% damage so it is very interesting to read that there is a source that states that he force-landed with 30% damage. I am very glad to know that the aircraft was a "Blue 2" as this was totally new to me. Returning to Sinner, I am also aware that he was shot down a second time in June 1942, this time on 24 June when he had to force-land following aerial combat with Hurricane fighters. I believe that his fighter on this occasion may have been Bf 109 F-4/Trop "Yellow 1" (W.Nr. 8687) but this information may be wrong. Then again on 4 April 1945, when he was lucky to survive the shoot down and the following strafing. Many thanks for all your new information!

Hello Leo,

When I was looking at Me262 losses some years ago I made some notes about Sinner ( born 1915 )from I think the Horrido book. This states he was drafted into the Austrian Army as an Artilleryman, served in a Flak unit in Poland and commenced pilot training in 1940. In all he was shot down 12 times baling out on three occasions and was wounded 5 times. He crash-landed on several ocassions 3 of them behind enemy lines and once landed behind Russian line to pick up a downed comrade. If all this is correct he was a very lucky pilot, who also claimed he was fired at on his chute and on the ground when he baled out of his 262,
