Re: The 501°Sqd on 04/25/1942
Excellent data Martin!!
Sorry if you feel harassed by me, but when you do come out, you certainly do "with a vengeance" (if you get my point!) Your "brief" summary is more than enough to convince me how complex the Allied (RAF) offensive over the Channel really was. And Martin, don't forget I consider you to be one the Aces on this forum, so once again, thanks a lot!!! Cheers Stig |

Re: The 501°Sqd on 04/25/1942
I was interested in the five pilots that took off first at 15:30. Palmer-Thomkinson, Wheldon and Rocovski went missing. Blair crash landed on his return. The fifth pilot in that group of five was Jack Ashby Turbill, RAAF: https://vwma.org.au/explore/people/509917
His service record is here (24 pages): https://recordsearch.naa.gov.au/Sear...aspx?B=5241089 Pages 6 and 17 have his assignments. He joined 501 squadron on 7 April, 1942 and left the squadron on 18 August, 1942. He was then assigned to 457 squadron (RAAF) and returned to Australia. He wrote up his wartime experiences in a book/paper called “One Life at a Time”. There is a copy in the National Library of Australia, but it is not apparently available on-line. https://catalogue.nla.gov.au/Record/1814807 I wonder what he had to say about 25 April? |
