17/5/41 Bf110s and Ju52s on Greek airfields
Hi guys
On 17 May 1941, Beaufighters from Crete attacked three Greek aerodromes and seriously damaged several Bf110s and Ju52s. Does anyone know the actual damage inflicted? Cheers Brian |

Re: 17/5/41 Bf110s and Ju52s on Greek airfields
Dear Brian,
One of the three airfields which attacked by the Beaufighters during that day was the airfield of Molaoi. According to a german document ,which i have in my hands , that raid took place at 05:30 and the casualties was one man dead and several lightly wounded. No aircraft casualties recorded. Hope this helps Ragards Tasos |

Many thanks Tasos
The other two airfields were Hassani and Argos, so presumably the aircraft casualties occurred there. Cheers Brian |

Re: 17/5/41 Bf110s and Ju52s on Greek airfields
Gentlemen:
On 15 Sept 1944, I destroyed 2 JU-52s trying to land at an airfield on an island almost due West (10-12 miles) of Athens, Greece. The runway which ran approximately East and West(?) had a good sized hill to the south of the runway. Several JU-52s were parked along the runway, which were strafed by Barrie Davis, one of our pilots. In Googling the Island of Salamis, I think the airfield was located there. If so, can anyone tell me the name of the field and perhaps give a longitude and latitude for it? Our intelligence wrote up the incident and called the field Megara?? Thank you. From there I flew at wave top level (for a couple of minutes) toward Kalamaki observing numerous dust trails from landing aircraft. However, by the time I got there, only one was still not in a revetment. I strafed what I believe was a JU-88 just he pulled into a revetment. Unbelievably, as I passed over the revetment, a man on the ground, running toward a mounted machine gun, picked up a rock and threw it at me. He had quite a good aim as the rock appeared to pass over my left wing. I intended going back for him but flak changed my mind. Cordially, Art Fiedler |

Andreas & Marcel
Excellent! Thanks very for much for the information - the Bf110 losses/damage was quite considerable. Any idea how many Ju52s were hit at Kalamaki/Hassani? Art - your contribution most interesting - a bit beyond my scope at present but noted for future projects. Many thanks. Cheers Brian |

Field "Megara" is not on an island, it`s on the mainland.
Fp.Nr. 31 148 (09.43-04.44) Fl.H.Kdtr. (E) 16/IV/ Megara Kdr., 18.12.42-22.12.43 Hptm. Friedrich Wolf, ab 22.12.43 Hptm. Heinrich Otte In Attika there were also the aerodroms: Eleusis, Tatoi, Kalamaki, Phaliron and Skaramanga. Not very far Tanagra. |
