Re: Unknown Picture_french Seaplane?

Well, to recap
(1) It's on the back of a warship that has suffered major damage. Note the destroyed guns. Usually, only cruisers and above carry aircraft.
(2) The ship is located in bay with other warships in the backgrond. One look like a possible hospital ship.
(3) the floats look German according to other pictures I've seen.

Maybe it's from the Spanish Civil War? The background looks like its the Med.

Re: Unknown Picture_french Seaplane?

Hi Kaki,

I think it is wreck of the He-8 from Yugoslav Naval Aviation. It was on the deck of HMS York sunked in Souda Bay in 26 March 1941, and demolition in 22 May 1941 when British definitely evacuated from Crete. The He-8 were bring to British forces in Crete, and german soldiers find it in water, so the Germans pull out of the water and put hydroplane on the deck of HMS York.

Do you have that photo in better resolution?

kind regards

Re: Unknown Picture_french Seaplane?

Unfortunately, I don't have a better resolution as it's an E-Bay capture. I just though the picture looked interesting and for the life of me I could not identify it.

Your explanation makes total sense and I will label it as such.

Re: Unknown Picture_french Seaplane?

Hi Kaki,

thank you for Your kind reply. If you wish, you can find about 10 different pictures on german e-bay now which showed the wreck of HMS York in Souda Bay in Crete. So, You can compare that pictures with the image you presented to us, and You will see that it is the same ship and location.

Anyway, thank you again for your effort and to wish for sharing that image with us here in the forum.

kind regards

Re: Unknown Picture_french Seaplane?

The guns look as single mounts not twin 8" turrets as fitted to HMS YORK.
