Re: W.McC. Osborne DFM 21 Squadron 1941

Brian,
From Tavender's two volume DFM Register:

Wyndham McKay Osborne. 1382177, Sergeant, No 21 Sqn (Immediate)

L.G. 10/6/1941. Air 2/9541.

Enjoy!

Frank.

Re: W.McC. Osborne DFM 21 Squadron 1941

Brian,

Interestingly, Tavender in his 1990 DFM Recipients from 1918 to 1982, refers to Osborne as - 1382177 Sgt Wyndham McCay OSBORNE RAF, likewise Michael Maton in his "Honour The Air Forces" (p.382). So does the London Gazette: https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/...5187/page/3321

Col.

Wow! Thanks guys - that was speedy!

Obviously McCay and not McKay.

Much appreciated.

Re: W.McC. Osborne DFM 21 Squadron 1941

PS to the above:

Sgt Osborne and his leader (P/O Dennis) were credited with attacking and damaging an Italian tanker and an Italian destroyer on 7 May 1941, and repeated the success the next day - hence DFM for Osborne and DFC for Dennis.

However, I cannot find any details of such attacks/losses/damage of Italian vessels. Can anyone provide substance?

Cheers
Brian
