George Brown Cameron Sangster, HMS Illustrious
A Scot from Aberdeen in the Fleet Air Arm. Apart from his full name. I have no more details of him. I presume he left the RNVR post-war.
After qualifying as a pilot in December 1940. He followed a very poor record with 802 Squadron in 1941 (three air accidents in a month!). Service with 794 and 760 Squadron followed. Did he fly Martlets with 881 or 882 Squadron in 1942? He later was a successful Wildcat pilot (a Fw200 and a Ju88 destroyed) flying with 816 and 819 Squadron before taking command of 804 (Hellcat) Squadron 1944-45 in the Far East. Awarded DSC. K |
