Re: Crash during transferflight in Bury Belgium

Thar story is nonsens.

The WNr. 780750 was a Bf 109G-14, manufactured during August 1944. At that time Le Havre was already in Allied hands. I have no such loss for the given date, location or name.

Hi !

The Tagesmeldung of Ob.Feldktr/520 Ia An den Mil.Befehlshaber in Belgien und Nordfrankreich dated 11/06/1942 (source RW 36-28 p.311) mentions :
Quote

The only Fw. Von Bitter of JG2 I could find was Fw. Joachim von Bitter (53523/40, born on 5/08/1922), who was killed on 10/01/1943 when his Fw190 crashed near the English coast. He is presently buried at Higher Cemetery, Exeter, England. (Sources WASt death card G-A 032/0780 and findagrave.com).

The crash is mentioned in La Luftwaffe en Belgique Tome I, by J.L.Roba and P.Taghon, p. 258.

Copies of the documents can be supplied via pm.

Best regards

Luc

10./JG 2 were around this time converting to the Fw 190 so possible this F-4/B was being returned to a depot?
