In Autumn43 / Winter 43/44, Pokryshkins unit flew "free hunt" on the route of german transporters between Odessa and Sewastopol. This is mentined in his memoirs.

Sadly, I do not have any more detailed information.

Could be also 9 Gv IAP or 11 Gv IAP of Black See fleet (VVS ChF) (Skladovsk group). Both units flew free hunts in this area.

Hi!
Thank you both. Those planes supposed to be two Yaks. Did mentioned units have this type of a/c in their use at that time?

No, all units has an Cobra. But as we know from many other cases, the plane type identification is often wrong

Our diving team find JU-52 at 23m depth in Odessa bay. Video and photos available at http://forum.divingwreck.com/phpBB3/...php?f=10&t=941 (russian). If you have any information about this plane - please mail to zadorozhko @ ukr.net - it is very important for our investigations.

Without any further information, it is impossible to identify this Ju 52.
Did you find the main factory plate on the airframe?

Did you also find any more aircraft wrecks in the Odessa Bay?

Re: Who shot down Ju 52 near Odessa on Dec 14, 1943?

The object is found in result of the planned work together with «Department of underwater heritage». Our work consisted in studying of materials of 69th aviation squadron (Odessa directly participating in defence in days of the Second World War) and particularly we were engaged in search brought down bomber JU-88 (Hero of Soviet Union Topolsky Vitaly Timofeevich) over the Odessa bay.
Before the very first immersing, we have been assured that have found JU-88, but actually found JU-52.
«Department of an underwater heritage» tried to find the information on losses of Germany in our region. Sergey Voronov had contacted Munich archive, 100 % of historical identification are not present, only constructive 100 %.
The object is accepted under protection by "Department of underwater heritage», our diving team has got official access to work on the further identification and certification of this object.

Re: Who shot down Ju 52 near Odessa on Dec 14, 1943?

I believe you're talking about HSU Topolskiy of 69 IAP, who claimed 2 Ju 88s shot down over the Black Sea, at 12:20 on 23 July 1941.

That day, a Ju 88A-4 bomber, coded 9K+LM, of II./KG 51, disappeared in an unknown area. This could be one of the victims of Lt. Topolskiy.

That seems to be the answer:

14.12.1943 St.Lt. Olefirenko I.K. 16 GIAP, Savoja-62, east of Odessa. 8.55-10.35

14.12.1943 St.Lt. Olefirenko I.K. 16 GIAP, Ju-52, west of Krasnoarmeiskaja Niva. 14.04-15.41
