Re: Fw190D with Ta152 vertical

Pilot,

According to me (from memory) 2 are known: WNr. 500645 (black 2 of JG2?) and 500647 (brown 7 of JG26).
There is a very strong hypothesis that WNr. 500648 should also have existed, and that it was detailed to KG(J)27 with green and white Karobands, but no proof sofar.
Holy grail? Yes the color picture of WNr 500645 which should exist somewhere...

Best regards,

Philippe

Re: Fw190D with Ta152 vertical

Philippe’s memory is more or less correct, except that W.Nr. 500645 was Black 6 + I of III. /JG 2, and W.Nr. 500647 was Brown 4 + - of 7. /JG 26.

I’m not so sure that W.Nr. 500648, Yellow 6 + I of 9./ KG(J) 27, if MY memory is correct, would have had the green and white checker RV of KG (J) /27.
White 7 + I and White 11 + I, probably from KG (J) /27, didn’t have them painted. I think they received the Fw 190Ds to late to bother with painting bands.

Yes, the famous colour picture of W.Nr. 500645 would be very nice to see some day.

Re: Fw190D with Ta152 vertical

Interesting detail about the W.Nr. 500645. I forget to ask- is this tail mounting planed or this is used as well they are just available?

Cheers

Re: Fw190D with Ta152 vertical

Micke,

Thanks for the refreshing of my memory.... Concerning WNr 500648 karoband: this was just an hypothesis of what could have been , as is the existence of this plane with a Ta 152 tail.
Concerning KG(J)27, a colour picture exist on a dump (Kaufbeuren?) showing a karoband of large white and green squares (opposite to small ones, but never shown on KG(J)27 planes)on a Bf 109 G-10. Should have a copy of the pic at home.
Sorry, I'm eating my lunch now at work and so can not be precise enough and have to relay on my memory.

Philippe

Re: Fw190D with Ta152 vertical

I think that Mimetall used these Ta152 tails as they had them available. Mimetall was going to start building the Ta152C so it's possible that they had some temporary shortage of regular tails, but had some Ta tails in storage.
Both tails are interchangeable with each other so there was no trouble using them on the Fw190D instead of the Ta152.
