Unknown camshaft
Hello all together,
during one of my researching trips in Latvia, I found two camshafts at a old farm. The farmer told me, that they were recovered from a plane crash in WW2. Can anyone identify the camshaft in the picture (the second one has the same measures)? Lenght is around 107,5cm. Thank you very much. Kind regards Sebastian |

Re: Unknown camshaft
Loks like DB601/605...but I would have to pull out some manuals to confirm...

Re: Unknown camshaft
Lobes are to close to each other and lobe separation is incorrect for a DB.

Re: Unknown camshaft
Hello
The 7 holes at the end piece and the general layout are pointing toward an Allison V 1710 (Bell P-39, largely used by the VVS). But I have to make further verifications. Regards Jean Schreiber |

Re: Unknown camshaft
Hello,
perfect, that must be the correct shaft. As there are two of them, they must belong to a 12 cylinder-engine. The Allison looks exactly the same. I will try to find some measures to make it sure. Thank you all together. Especially to Jean, impressive knowledge! Best regards Sebastian |

Note the bearing surfaces on each side of the lobes. |

Re: Unknown camshaft
Hello, found some more parts from the same crash landing site. Can anyone tell, if they are also from a P-39?
Thanks and regards Sebastian |

Re: Unknown camshaft
Hello
The part with the 12-723-019 number comes from the elevator assembly of the P-39. Always easier with the label ! Regards Jean Schreiber |

Re: Unknown camshaft
Alcoa still produces aluminum today, headquartered in my hometown of Pittsburgh. Ball bearing is a Fafnir and is also still in production under the Timken company name.
