5FS/52FG Spitfire shot down RAF Spitfire 30/8/43
Hi guys
Hopefully someone can advise me of the identities of the the two US Spitfire V pilots of the 5thFS/52ndFG who erroneously shot down an RAF Spitfire on 30/8/43. Cheers Brian |

Hello Brian,
Looks like they knew of their mistake as there are no official claims for the 52nd FG 5th FS that day in the Claims Lists. However the 27th FS made 5; 71st made 3 and the 94th made 1 claim. One claim was made by 5th FS pilot Lt.E.J. Odom on the 29th. However I see that in "Spitfires over Sicily" on page 201 there is reference to this loss. F/O. Stuart Woodhouse FTR with EN660 from 682 Sqdn sortie to Foggia. Odom's claim is also noted as being an Me410. so no mix up there. Alex |
