Ju88 4D+FK crashed 22 July 1940

Hi guys

Another query!

The Ju88 of 2./KG30, flown by Fw Max Schlect, crashed at Narvik on 22 July, possibly on return from an attack on Banff Scotland.

Can this be confirmed? This was the occasion that Duff House (housing German PoWs including Luftwaffe personnel, was hit and SIX prisoners were killed, together with two guards; a further 18 prisoners were injured.

Cheers
Brian

Brian,

2./KG30 Junkers Ju88A-1 (0161). Flew into Kirkestind mountain at the southern end of Kirkesdalen valley, 35 km south-east of Bardufoss, while flying in cloud during a training flight. FF Fw Max Schlecht, BO Uffz Heinz Bellmann, BF Fw Gotthardt Oswald, and BS Uffz Hermann Böhrkircher all killed. Aircraft 4D+FK 100% write-off.

The NVM & QMG Returns both state 'Feindflug' although the former source has a manual amendment saying 'Ubungsflug'. Not much help I'm afraid.

Thanks Peter

Does that negate 2./KG30 from being the unit responsible for the Banff attack, or simply reduce it to being a possibility?

Cheers
Brian
