Sqn Leader Moore, D.F.C - 515 Squadron
Hi all,
I am trying to find out any information regarding a 515 Sqn pilot, when based at RAF Little Snoring. Sometime in July Sqn Ldr Moore, D.F.C, think his initials were R.H? Did something, unsure what, but have been told he beat up a airfield, and was under the influence of alcohol and he was initially placed up on charges, but believe these were dropped. I was also told he had a highly credible RAF career, with 11 Sqn, being one of these. Any link, lead, or details on this pilot would be appreciated. I have looked on the PRO website to see if there was any court of inquiry, no luck. Thanks Danny

Re: Sqn Leader Moore, D.F.C - 515 Squadron
Here is his DFC citation.
Flying Officer Robert Henry MOORE (40841), No. 11 Squadron. In June, 1941, Flying Officer Moore and Sergeant Manly were pilot and navigator bomb aimer respectively of the leading aircraft of a formation of three detailed to attack enemy shipping in the harbour at Beirut. Owing to dense and low cloud the attack was carried out at an extremely low altitude in the face of intense and accurate anti-aircraft and machine gun fire. Before reaching the objective, the leader's aircraft was hit by a shell which caused considerable damage and injured Sergeant Manly in several places. Despite the handicap, by his skill and devotion to duty, the formation scored a direct hit on a large enemy merchant ship. Although suffering severely, Sergeant Manly displayed great resolution and successfully navigated the formation back to base where Flying Officer Moore skilfully landed his damaged aircraft without accident. Flying Officer Moore has completed 35 and Sergeant Manly 42 operational missions in which they both have shown exceptional keenness and devotion to duty.*London Gazette No. 35225, Dated 1941-07-22

Danny-Again all you have to do is put his name or number into the search box of The Gazette. After the war he was granted a PC as a Flt Lt but then in 1955 he forfeited his seniority and then resigned his commission later that year

Re: Sqn Leader Moore, D.F.C - 515 Squadron
So, a little more, I have found out this incident occurred at RAF Elmdon, Warwickshire in late July 1944. And possibly a very low pass over a official parade. Still nothing further I am afraid.
Thanks Danny
