Who is this Wg Cdr ?
hello,
could you help me ? I am looking to identify this airman (Wing Commander ?), named "Alec" ? He served in 1945 in the RAF in France with the F/Lt rank. Thank you in advance |

Re: Who is this Wg Cdr ?
Thank you Alex for your help.
Why do you think it could be this gentleman ? I was unable to find a picture of Cowan. Could you help me to decipher the photo : no pilot badge (administrative officer ?), what are the military decorations ? He was in the military government in northern France in 1945 as F/L. Best regards |

Re: Who is this Wg Cdr ?
Looks like the first one, on the left, is the British War Medal from the First World War. I'd hazard a guess that the second one is the British Victory Medal, which would make sense, and god knows what the third one is.

Re: Who is this Wg Cdr ?
Hi Von Alles
Of course he's wearing a 'pilot badge'! RAF Wings! Looks a bit old for WW2 service! Cheers Brian |

Re: Who is this Wg Cdr ?
Hello,
But NO "VR" pins in the lapels of his jacket. So RAF and not RAFVR ? ( can the lack of the pins be relied upon to be certain of RAF and not RAFVR ?). As for why I chose Cowen, simply because the name "Alec" there seem to be very few with this name, others like Alex Henshaw seem to be "Alex". Alex |

Re: Who is this Wg Cdr ?
Wow ! Thank you gentlemen for your help !
Yes he seems to be old for air service , but not for ground duties, like supplies, and so on. I keep on my enquiry with these new elements. Best regards |

Also, isn't the middle stripe in his rank a little bit thin for a W/Cdr? Looks more like S/Ldr to me. |

Re: Who is this Wg Cdr ?
Thank you VoyTech for contribution.
If the third one would be the 1939-45 Star, there is a clasp on it : which one ? About the rank : difficult to see, but could be a possiblity. Best regards |
