Re: 9/KG55 Loss, 11.May 1941, He 111P, G1+BT.
Thanks to Srob 48, now there is a problem, Huber and Schuderer are buried together with an unknown airman with the same date of death in Block 9, grave 43 at Cannock, but, unusally the CWGC have a date of birth for the unknown, 30.04.1916, any suggestions or answers?

Re: 9/KG55 Loss, 11.May 1941, He 111P, G1+BT.
The only known loss for 30.04.1916 born persons I have for summer 1941 is the following. There is one problem, this was in the area of Suez Canal. There is also another problem: DRK Vermisstenbildliste gives his DOB 30.03.1916.
1941-05-08, 6./KG 26, He 111 H-5, 3850, 1H+AP, (Suezkanal) Flugzeugführer Ofw Kleinknecht, Willy, vermißt Beobachter Oblt.z.S. Sporkmann, Alois, + Bordfunker Gefr Kappes, Hugo, + Bordmechaniker Uffz Wienecke, Rolf (* 30.04.1916), vermißt Notlandung auf See infolge Jägerbeschuß. Bruch 100 %. Kappes: El Alamein/Ägypten, Einzelgrab. Oblt Sporkmann für tot erklärt. All other 30.04.1916 born persons have a known burial place except the following, which is on the DRK Vermisstenbildliste Band LJ, page 347: Fw Gerhard Reiser (* 30.04.1916) of 2. or 3./SAGr. 130 MIA. His last known message was from Slowakei in December 1944. Matti |

Re: 9/KG55 Loss, 11.May 1941, He 111P, G1+BT.
The police report says 'Lt Martin Reiser unhurt captured taken to Tunbridge Wells Police Station , Unter Offizier Schied died on way to hospital body at Tunbridge Wells mortuary . Three bodies in burnt out machine not identified, bodies at mortuary Groombridge in charge of Markelow undertakers '. The attached report of PC 164 appears to be the source of the three bodies . GQM has 4 and 5 men crews operating with III/KG 55 this night any chance there was an error in the records and the Reiser crew had a another crew member,

Re: 9/KG55 Loss, 11.May 1941, He 111P, G1+BT.
Many thanks to all, it has been suggested that the 5th man could have been a Kriegberichter, but how to check this out?

Re: 9/KG55 Loss, 11.May 1941, He 111P, G1+BT.
It is a strange one as a number of 9./KG 55 aircraft lost that night were carrying just 4 crew; Sd Fhrs would have been listed on the NVM (like KG 76 on 18 Aug 40) unless their parent unit recorded them separately. K report clearly states 4 crew

Re: 9/KG55 Loss, 11.May 1941, He 111P, G1+BT.
Thanks Chris,
It was just an idea, or perhaps it was one of the black gang on a fatal joy ride, we will probably never know. |
