What was it like to be a pilot in Hitler’s Luftwaffe during World War II? In this book, the veterans themselves provide the answer.

During over 40 years of research, I have visited and made interviews with hundreds of Luftwaffe pilot veterans. Here I present what the veterans themselves told me – often things that don’t usually appear in ordinary books about the war. The book is richly illustrated with, among other things, never before published photos from the veterans’ private photo albums.

From the Swedish Library Service’s review of the Swedih edition of Luftwaffe pilots Vol 1:

“Well written and engaging… richly illustrated with, among other things, photos from the veterans’ private photo albums. It is also packed with facts and statistics in several appendices. Christer Bergström is an internationally leading expert on the Luftwaffe during World War II. He has been studying the subject for decades and has written several excellent books on the subject. ”
– Tord Rönnholm, BTJ Booklet no. 24, 2018.

Isn't there much of an interest in this title?

Hi Christer,

Very much interested. I'll be ordering a copy of every volume you publish.

I'm interested in all aspects of the European air war, but the human angle is a particularly captivating one. Reading personal accounts from a variety of personalities in different units, roles, and campaigns is a great way to obtain insights and "soft information" (e.g. opinions, motivations, comparisons, relationships, morale) that are not easily obtainable elsewhere.

Patrick Eriksson's "Alarmstart" trilogy (2 volumes published thus far) is a good resource, and I look forward to reading yours too.

Leon Venter.

I will buy one as well. Does the book cover a specific period (e.g. early war) or a certain front?
